Ian Weed is our music man on the go. Here he catches up with the latest sights and sounds, this time with LCD Soundsystem.
The second I clicked “purchase” on the ticket site, I was looking forward to this night. I was dreaming about a warm late October evening dance party soundtracked by LCD under the stars. What could be better? I don’t know because what we got that evening was low 50 degree temperatures and pouring rain.
There was still a raging dance party, LCD played, and the freaks came out to play. Despite the unseasonably crappy weather, thousands waded into the Austin 360 Amphitheatre to see James Murphy and company.
It was a good mix of scantily clad ladies and gents dressed up like Rick and Morty. The band even got in on the dressed up action. I recall a zombie on stage and James Murphy looking like a panda bear with a wig on. It was hard to see with the rain in my eyes.
On to the music…LCD started their set with the first song off last year’s American Dream. From there, they went into 2005’s Daft Punk is Playing at My House. Thankfully it was a quick warm up into the dance jams because I was freezing.
The set was a great mix of songs off their four albums. Highlights included Get Innocuous, You Wanted a Hit, and Dance Yourself Clean. The latter is an apropos song title given the soggy state everyone was in. They ended the night with one of my favorite of theirs, All My Friends. It was a sing along and at the end of the night everybody knew where their friends were.
